New Mock Draft!

nfldraft.jpgWe finally put up a mock draft of our own.  Just click on the link at the top of the page titled “Mock Draft” to take a look.

I have the Panthers…well…taking a couple of guys who probably won’t be Panthers.  Let’s face it, the team likes defense too much.

Alright, let’s keep the laughter to a minimum.

I doubt Kenny Phillips will go #7 to NE. In fact everything I have seen and heard has him slipping possibly out of the first round altogether. Mike Mayock, of the NFL Network, says no S will go in the first round.

I’m not sure.  Phillips has graded out well and had a good enough workout at the Combine to warrant a high draft grade.  I’ve seen many mocks with him going as high as sixth.  But, these mock drafts are just opinions.  And they’re good for getting discussions going too.

I hope Phillips goes at #13. We need a good free safety. New England may get Vernon Gholston, he would fit their system

  • John White

If Phillips falls to us at #13, I’ll be dancing for a week!  We really need a good safety and he would fit right in.

  • Mike Houston

Please believe, if we do get him, I’d do the Chicago two-step with you. It might happen though. Who would ever think that Adrian Peterson would go at #7, or Brady Quinn would drop as far as he did

  • John White

I sure hope he falls to us.  This is one team that must have an upgrade at safety.  Then we’ll all be dancing!

I agree with you 100%, but the Panthers scare me. I just have a bad feeling that they’re going to trade out of that pick

Thats a pretty bad mock. I will be pissed off if we take a Hb with the 1st pick and a QB with the 2nd. That is a joke! How about a LT with the 1st and a DT or DE with the 2nd.

  • John White

And it’s cool that you disagree.  I went with the whole "be a more physical team like the Steelers" and ran with it on the pick for Mendenhall and considered Stewart there.  The Henne pick was to do a little covering of the backside for the future after Delhomme walks away or gets hurt.  Honestly, I took a few liberties with it and even made two picks that I knew the team wouldn’t make.

thats cool man!I love your site has great info and  I mean no disrespect, but the draft is rich with OT’s,DE’s and our biggest need I think is LT and depth at D-line. I like Moore and I think the draft is so deep at HB that we could take one in the 3rd like Forte or Hart, since D-williams  will start anyways. We pick up a stud OT to have a great O- line so any back can run, and since Jenkins left we use the 2nd,3rd to bolster our D-line. That should help out our O,D line and Forte,Hart would be a good backup for Williams and could be had in the 3rd. 1-CladyLT) or the best OT2-Dre Moore(DT),Patt simms(DT)3-Forte(HB)3-Ellis(DE)4-safetysounds good to me and fills alot of needs!

  • John White

I like that scenerio a lot.  I considered Clady and others maybe falling to the Panthers but wanted to take a look at how things would look if the team drafted for offense, something they don’t normally do too often.  But no offense taken at all.  I’m always happy to hear feedback – positive or negative.  Thanks for being a Cat Crave regular!

I don’t think oakland would pick two DL. 2nd round would probably be a WR, but who can really guess with AD. However Merling, Ellis, Kelly and Burgess could be a pretty good defensive line.

Hey I hate to say this, but you said the team does not  normally draft for offense. For the last 2 drafts we took a HB in the 1st(Dwill) and last year we took (WR)Jarrett and Kali(C) in the 2nd. That is  3 out of 5 offense guys taken with the 1st, 2nd picks. However before those last 2 years they did pretty much take D guys, so you do have a point, but it looks as if they are turning the corner, and if they pick up a OT in the 1st, that has to be a yes for turning the corner to draft more offense guys!

  • John White

They need to take a harder look at the offense.  And now that Sims isn’t an option, tackle will be an even more important need going into the draft.

I’d take Stewart over Mendenhall in the 1st. And I wouldn’t touch QB until the 4th/5th (maybe the 3rd if someone like Henne or Booty really fell). And then OT or DT in the 2nd. And I wouldn’t touch Phillips unless he fell to the team in the 2nd (possible). If he doesn’t, someone like Demps in the 3rd might be a better pick. I don’t see Phillips going that high…
