Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday. Should we be happy that it’s time for the big game or just be glad the nightmare is nearly over?
You know it. I know it. The Carolina Panthers should be in Tampa, Fla. But they’re not.
That means enduring more than 6 hours of pregame programming on NBC and what promises to be a four and a half hour game. Those six hours of pregame will include at least 20 references to how the Cardinals whipped the Panthers and at least as many highlights.
How will we make it through seeing one of the five Jake Delhomme [...]

The Longest Sunday
We have returned with Episode 48 of Cat Crave Radio!
We started with friend of the show, Tom Sorensen, of the Charlotte Observer. He broke down the loss of all of those coaches, Jordan Gross, and Jerry Richardson.
That’s when things got interesting and the Carolina Panthers announced Monday the hiring of Ron Meeks as the new defensive coordinator. [Wouldn't you know that would happen right after we talked with Tom? Go figure!]
Old pal Nick Yeoman and Chris Kolb of NFL News and Rumors gave us their thoughts on Meeks and the impact his hiring will have on the team. Nick was [...]
Man, That Was a Close One!
We hired a defensive coordinator Monday afternoon. Ron Meeks! And guess what? It could have been a disaster.
Yes, the team could have hired Herm Edwards. Herm, or as he is referred to in Kansas City “Harm,” Edwards is a friend of John Fox. That connection nearly cost us all a lot of sleep and would have undoubtedly caused ulcers. Gastroenterologists all over the area would have had a booming business.
Very interesting article over at Arrowhead Addict today about the man many Panthers fans wanted us to hire. They listed the top ten Hermisms:
10. “If you’re looking for credit for a [...]
The Carolina Panthers didn’t take long, did they? Straight from their website:
Ron Meeks, whose defenses annually ranked among the NFL leaders in Indianapolis, was named defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers, the team announced Monday.
In his seven seasons as defensive coordinator of the Colts, Indianapolis finished in the top seven in points allowed five times. The Colts were seventh in points allowed last season while finishing 11th in yards allowed.
“We are very pleased to add Ron to our coaching staff as defensive coordinator,” said head coach John Fox. “He is an outstanding teacher, who has enjoyed great success as a [...]
The Bad News is Piling Up
Fresh off a 12-4 season and the second seed in hand, the Carolina Panthers looked like a juggernaut. Since then, they have not only been embarrassed at home in the playoffs but that juggernaut looks more like a dud bottle rocket.
All of those coaches left and now, there is bad news about one of our key players on defense – Damione Lewis, the space-eating defensive tackle.
Carolina Panthers starting defensive tackle Damione Lewis said he probably won’t be back on the football field until training camp at the earliest after recently undergoing rotator cuff surgery on his shoulder.
Lewis, an eight-year NFL [...]
Guest Spot
I had the opportunity to visit with Joe Dexter of Fantasy CPR to talk about the Carolina Panthers own DeAngelo Williams. We also discussed Julius Peppers and April’s draft.
Check out his podcast here. It’s an outstanding show. He also discusses the Super Bowl and focuses on all things related to fantasy-sports.
If you haven’t visited their website, you’re missing out. It’s a must-read if you are into fantasy sports.
Trgovac to Green Bay
Mike Trgovac has found a job, according to the National Football Post.
The National Football Post has just been informed that the Green Bay Packers have added former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Mike Trgovac to their defensive coaching staff.
Trgovac spent the last seven seasons as a member of the defensive staff in Carolina.
More on this story as it develops.
UPDATE: Trgovac has been hired to coach the defensive line.
I’m still having a lot of trouble with this so somebody please help me…He had a job as defensive coordinator, was offered a new contract, was ready to sign the new deal and then backed [...]
Williams Wins Award
Finally some good news for Panthers fans! After a week of losing coaches and the Julius Peppers situation, Panthers fans finally have something to smile about. Although Deangelo Williams feel short in the MVP race, he has won the NFL’s Most Improved Player Award. Past winners include, Drew Brees, Frank Gore, Jeff Garcia, and Chad Pennington.
Deangelo was able to show his true talent this year after the Panthers released Foster. He attributes some of his success to his backfield partner Jonathan Stewart.
“(Stewart made) a huge, huge difference,” Williams said. “He keeps me on my toes. … With Jonathan out [...]
Who Replaces Trgovac?
The hunt will be on in earnest for a defensive coordinator soon. Once the Senior Bowl is over and everyone has gotten back to their offices, we should expect John Fox and company to start the interview process.
One name has already come up courtesy of Charles Chandler of the Charlotte Observer.
Among the most notable candidates the Carolina Panthers could consider for their defensive coordinator position is former Rams and Saints head coach Jim Haslett, a former Carolina divisional rival who spent one season early in his career working with current Panthers head coach John Fox.
Haslett served as linebackers coach for the [...]
Trgovac to Tampa Bay?
Pro Football Talk has floated a rumor that Mike Trgovac, the now-former defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers, could be headed to Tampa Bay.
One tip we’ve recently received is that former Panthers defensive coordinator Mike Trgovac could land in Tampa, as a member of new coach Raheem Morris’ staff.
The Bucs currently don’t have a defensive coordinator or a secondary coach. But we assume that Trgovac wouldn’t have turned down a contract to remain as the Panthers’ defensive coordinator unless he had a pretty good lead on an equivalent gig.
The only problem here is that the Buccaneers have already hired Jim [...]
