This being a blog for the Carolina Panthers, I am going to break habit for today, as we get ready to look to this Sunday, where at least three new teams will compete for the chance to go to Super Bowl XLIV in two weeks.

Carolina Panthers Receivers Coach, Richard Williamson, Retires

ESPN reports that Carolina Panthers wide receivers coach, Richard Williamson, retired Monday at the age of 68.
Williamson had been mulling retirement for a number of years. He joined the Panthers in 1994, a year before the team’s inaugural season.
He coached receivers Steve Smith, Muhsin Muhammad, Patrick Jeffers, Raghib Ismail, and Mark Carrier to at least one 1,000-yard receiving season each. Moreover, Williamson weathered the changes of three head coaches; Dom Capers, George Seifert, and current head coach John Fox.
During the Seifert era, he served as interim offensive coordinator when Bill Musgrave unexpectedly stepped down from the position.

I wrote this piece a while back on another site, but it was a pretty well-researched article, and since things do have a tendancy to get passed over with the large expanse of information on the internet, I wanted to share this piece with everyone one more time.
Please keep in mind that there will not be any tight ends mentioned throughout this article, as this is specifically for “wide receivers,” not just the generalized “receiver.” Otherwise, tight ends Wesley Walls and Chris Mangum would most certainly be included.

Carolina Panthers Weekend Update: Crossman Out

The latest update on the Carolina Panthers, is special teams coach  Danny Crossman was the first coach of the Carolina Panthers to lose his job in 2010.
The decision by the Panthers was a curious one, and according to Panthers’ GM Marty Hurney, “an extremely hard decision.”
With Crossman as the special teams coach, the unit had stability among it’s kickers. The Panthers led the NFL with 51 touchbacks over the last two seasons.
