In his sort of “State of the Panthers” address on Tuesday afternoon, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney made a statement when he asserted that the starting quarterback job in Carolina is very much up for grabs.
A statement of the obvious? Or not?

Holy Schnikes! The Carolina Panthers are officially moving ahead without defensive end Julius Peppers.
Am I really surprised? Nah.
In the end, this works out for both sides.
Thomas Davis, whose rookie contract has expired, is on the verge of either becoming a tendered restricted free agent, or eventually receiving a contract extension.
As we remember, Davis suffered a torn ACL in November, at the New Orleans Saints.
Before you get too excited, don’t.
Speculation is what makes the sports news world go ’round, especially when the offseason is east side of bum-fill-in-the-blank.
Rumors have been swirling lately—as they tend to do—of potential trade talks to acquire Panthers’ running back DeAngelo Williams.
Panthers Sign DT to the Roster
I suppose it’s a matter of time before we find out the future of Panthers defensive tackle Ma’ake Kemoeatu. Or, this could be the replacement for Hollis Thomas, who was signed to a one-year contract during the 2009 season.
McNabb-to-Carolina? Why?!
ESPN’s (Extra Sensory Perception Network) Pat Yasinskas respoded to a reader’s comment with this on Feb. 15, in regard to a trade of McNabb-to-Carolina probability.
While trade “talks” of quarterback Kevin Kolb-to-Cleveland mount in Philly, it seems more and more likely that McNabb will stay in the City of Brotherly Love, at least for one more year.
On Sunday night, while cruising around Facebook–interesting, right?…yeah–I discovered the official Chris Harris fan page.
Today (Monday), I decided to check it out again and see if he had responded to any of my messages, as well as to see if he had updated his status since last night.
The result surprised me. Yes, he had updated his status, but that wasn’t the part that surprised me. What he had to say, did.
There are 13 days remaining, in which a team can decide who to place their franchise/transition tag on any two players within it’s roster.
By March 5, the Panthers will have designated their two franchise/transition players. Julius Peppers will not be one of them.
Could this be the end of the eight-year business relationship between the Carolina Panthers and Julius Peppers?
I ask the question because even though this is the latest news on the topic, as reported by the NFL’s website, there is really nothing more to contribute than the words as quoted by Peppers himself.
It is the 44th year of the Super Bowl, an event that has been dubbed by many as the greatest and most anticipated sporting event of American sports…Sorry baseball, while I love you very much it’s football’s time in the spotlight.
