In the (hopeful) event that a CBA is reached, it would essentially make both players UFA’s in the offseason, and so long as the Panthers can get both to agree to terms on a new contract, they’ll be there. If one agrees and one doesn’t, we can only hope that it’s Kalil who agrees and Williams who doesn’t, because it doesn’t make financial sense now or then, to place the franchise/transition tag on Kalil, thus paying him as much as a left tackle. Because when it comes to the offensive line players, there’s no differentiation between left tackle, right tackle, guard, or center. It’s just o-line. So franchising Williams would make sense. Kalil, not so much.

My gut feeling though, is that the kind of people these two guys are, they’ll both agree to initial terms with the Panthers, or it may take a few days to get the right numbers. We know Williams wants to remain in Carolina, and I’d say it’s safe to assume that Kalil does, too.
