For some fans this will mark the end of the 2010 NFL season. They will go back to their daily and weekly routines. The Panthers’ paraphernalia locked back up in a closet or box until next season. They won’t scan the papers for news and they won’t block off hours of Sunday’s to be away from their families. They will pick up extra work shifts on the weekend and get those household chores done for their significant others. And believe me, there is nothing wrong with that kind of fan. They are no less a fan that anyone else.
For others, it’s the start of the 2011 season.
For those fans, it’s daily visits to websites such as this. It’s pouring over news articles and ESPN snippets and ticker trackers waiting and waiting for any word on what will happen this off-season.
I am one of those types of NFL fans.
For me, the off-season provides almost as much entertainment as the regular season. I will enjoy the playoffs and the Super Bowl, but I will look more forward to the start of free agency and will hang on every CBA conversation. As a “journalist” of sorts, I will make phone calls to the league office to find out when the next CBA meeting will take place, then I will post my findings here.
Like many of you, the process actually starts today. The search for a new HC. The decisions that will be made on several key free agents, the build up to the NFL Draft, and possibly a little “Luck” for good measure.
The season for some of us ended a long time ago and it was simply a matter of getting to this point to start the new one. The Panthers may not be on television every Sunday but they won’t be losing every Sunday either. This can be so much more fun…if your that kind of fan.
