Well, we may not have gotten a big name head coach that you were hoping for, but there are a couple of unconfirmed reports concerning a couple of names that you may recognize.
The Carolina Panthers have been talking to Mike Shula, son of Don Shula, to be the new quarterback coach. Reports are now coming in saying that Shula has agreed to the job. [UPDATE: Steve Reed is now reporting that the Panthers have officially hired Shula.]
Another name that Panther fans know very well is Ricky Proehl. Of course, he was the incredibly reliable receiver that always seemed to come through for us on third down. He also came within two Adam Vinatieri field goals of being the hero in two Super Bowls. Proehl is now apparently speaking with the Panthers about becoming an assistant wide receivers and special teams coach. Even when he was playing here, he was very helpful in coaching the younger receivers. That makes him an enticing candidate to help the young receivers on this team now.
