Thomas Davis was expected to be a free-agent once the lockout ended.
But apparently that is not the case.
According to ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas a little-known rule is keeping Thomas Davis under contract for the 2011 year. Because Davis spent last year on the physically-unable-to-perform list his contract and salary from last season will be forwarded to this season.
According to Yasinskas’ source Davis has been told that the Panther’s will try to sign him to a long term deal, otherwise they will release him so that he can try to obtain a long term deal with another team.
To me this seems like it works in the favor of Carolina retaining Davis. You can read Pat Yasinskas’ article at ESPN here.
