BREAKING NEWS: Panthers cut ties with Brown

It sounds as though the Panthers have cut ties with former Florida State defensive end Everett Brown. This is one of the most shocking cuts so far. Brown was a second round pick for the Panthers three seasons ago and may be one of the worst draft picks for the Panthers and John Fox.

Albert Breer of NFL Network has reported the move on twitter.

"@AlbertBreer: RT @caplannfl Shocker: I’m told the Panthers have waived DE Everette Brown."

After losing Julius Peppers to free agency, the Panthers traded their second round pick of 2009 and their first round pick for the next season, which ended up being the No. 17th pick, to the 49ers to draft Brown in with the 43 pick of the draft.

In his two seasons with the Panthers Brown started just two games, had 47 career tackles and six sacks.

The move is a bit odd based on the Panthers lack of depth at defensive end but is not much of a shocker as Brown seemed to fall out of favor with new coach Ron Rivera. Brown is a liability playing against the run and has failed to ever show he can be anything more than a pass rushing specialist.

More than likely this move is to make room for a couple players the Panthers have signed or placed waiver claims on.
