Panthers @ Texans Update

Hey guys, just wanted to give Cat Crave Nation a quick update.

This weekend I will be attending the Panthers game in Houston (seeing as I’m from the Houston area). I will not be the only guy in my group wearing a Panthers jersey either, as I convinced my fraternity brother to sport my old Jake Delhomme jersey. Also, I will be sitting in the Bull Pen at the game.

In case you are wondering what the Bull Pen is, I took this from the Houston Texans website:

The fans in the Bull Pen interact directly with the action on the field. Bull Pen members have helped create and implement fan traditions, songs, chants and other elements of the game day experience that will one day foster the best atmosphere and the most daunting homefield advantage in the National Football League…fans within the Bull Pen are encouraged to stand throughout the game, sing, cheer and otherwise support the team in an enthusiastic manner, and therefore this section may not be a good fit for children or families.

So if I don’t return from the game alive, you know why.

What makes this so important for me, is I get to see my two favorite teams duke it out in my hometown. So, I can give an insider scoop on the Texans, one you may not get being a Panthers fan. Check back after the jump for a little bit of info on the Texans

The Texans clinched the AFC South division with a win last Sunday, as well as a Titans loss. Now they are playing for a 1st round bye, so don’t expect them to hold back.

They are currently on their 3rd QB of the season: 2011 5th round pick, TJ Yates. Many of you know Yates from his days as a Tar Heel. So far he has done a decent job in leading the Texans, but I have seen quite a few rookie mistakes. If we expect to walk away with win #5, the Panthers must exploit those mistakes, and use them wisely.

Also, the Texans take immense amounts of pride in their home games, so the Panthers must come out of the gate firing. If the Panthers can get an early lead, and protect it, the Texans will have a tough game ahead of them. The Texans defense is stout, but Cam Newton has been known to exploit defenses all season.

The thing I’m worried about is the Arian Foster / Ben Tate running combination. The two have been amazing all season, and we all know how good the Panthers are against the run. The Panthers need to focus on Foster, and let TJ throw his mistakes.

So guys, hope you enjoy watching the game this weekend. Be sure to keep an eye out for me in the Bull Pen, as I’ll be wearing my black Newton jersey next to a guy wearing a white Delhomme jersey.
