Cam Newton Named Rookie of the Year

Breaking News: Cam Newton has been named the AP Rookie of the Year!

Newton received 47 of the 50 votes cast by media members who cover the NFL to become the first Panther to win the award. Defensive end Julius Peppers was named AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2002.

The Pepsi Rookie of the Year Award is based entirely upon fan voting, and it has been announced that Cam Newton has also been awarded that honor.

He set a rookie passing record with 4,051 yards and added 706 on the ground. He had 21 passing TD’s and 14 rushing TD’s. The 14 set a record that had not been surpassed since Steve Grogan set the record 35 years ago. Also, the 35 total TD’s was most for a rookie ever.
