Carolina Panthers Select Luke Kuechly in 2012 NFL Draft

The Panthers have decided to go defensively with their first pick in the 2012 Draft by selecting Luke Kuechly from Boston College.  Kuechly will provide much needed help on the injury prone line backing corps.

Kuechly can play both the run and the pass, which both ranked 24th and 28th for Carolina.  Kuechly is a suprise pick for me, there were some talks about him but most talk was of drafting a defensive lineman or defensive back.

Kuechly will provide a potential fourth starting linebacker, which may tempt coach Ron Rivera to make a deeper transition to the 3-4 that he likes.  He could not test it out too much last year with enough lack at the depth already.

He also serves as a safe backup for perhaps Thomas Davis, who is coming off of his third torn ACL on the same knee.  With Kuechly, Davis, Beason, Anderson, and recently resigned Senn, Carolina has defiantly improved their depth.

The Panthers next pick is in the second round that will be held tomorrow night.
