Prowling the Web

It has been a while since I took the time to prowl the web. Today starts a reboot of the series, as I try to look at many more sites than the ones I normally do. All this makes it easier for us to relay not only great stories but breaking news.

When Jon Beason stopped to speak to the media at the end of the Panthers’ second week of Organized Team Activities (OTAs), a reporter asked the rehabbing linebacker how he was feeling.

“I feel great,” Beason said, looking skyward. “It’s a nice day – not so sunny.”

Six Carolina Panthers players came to Monday evening’s Charlotte Knights game to hit batting practice before the game. Among the players were tight ends Gary Barnidge, Richie Brockel, and Greg Smith; wide receiver Armanti Edwards; long snapper J.J. Jansen; and offensive tackle Garry Williams.

Less than a year ago, Jon Beason parlayed a third-straight trip to the Pro Bowl into a five-year, $50 million contract extension. A torn Achilles and the Carolina Panthers use of a top-10 pick on a middle linebacker (Boston College’s Luke Kuechly) have increased the pressure on Beason heading into the 2012 season.
