On Tuesday, Carolina Panthers’ Linebacker Jon Beason took the field and, for the first time, fully participated in drills.
This is the first we’ve seen of Beason since the Pro-Bowl Linebacker went down with an Achilles tear in the opener of last season.
In OTA’s Beason, Ron Edwards, and Thomas Davis were all 100% but Ron Rivera made the decision to have all three participate at a light level. He was taking steps to ensure the star players’ health.
Beason’s return was anything but ordinary as he made a spectacular play to intercept QB Cam Newton.
Rivera took notice of Beason’s return saying:
It was kind of nice to have him on the football field again. Just his presence helps us as a defense. We missed that last year.
His return also gave 1st round pick Luke Kuechly time to hit the classroom. That time is helping Kuechly and other rookies make the transition from college to the pro’s.
Beason’s return is a welcome one with the Panthers ranking near the bottom in defense last season. His return, along with Davis’ and Edwards’, looks to help improve upon a lackluster defense, and provide stops while the prolific offense under Cam Newton racks up the points.
