In 2012, 26 prospects attended the live draft. I think we all remember the 2005 draft when Alex Smith was taken #1 overall and “poor” Aaron Rodgers had to sit and wait…and wait…and wait…until his name was called when the Green Bay Packers chose him #24 overall. It also is a good reflection on those teams that needed a QB but didn’t bite…like the Dolphins (#2 pick – Ronnie Brown), Browns (#3 pick – Braylon Edwards), and especially the Joey Harrington Lions with the Mike Williams pick at #10 overall after having taken Charles Rogers and Roy Williams with their top-ten picks the previous 2 seasons.
Here’s the list of those attending the NFL Draft later this month:
Barkevious Mingo, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, LSU
Bjoern Werner, Defensive End, Florida State
Chance Warmack, Guard, Alabama
Cordarrelle Patterson, Wide Receiver, Tennessee
Dee Milliner, Cornerback, Alabama
DJ Fluker, Offensive Tackle, Alabama
EJ Manuel, Quarterback, Florida State
Eric Fisher, Offensive Tackle, Central Michigan
Ezekial Ansah, Defensive End, BYU
Geno Smith, Quarterback, West Virginia
Jonathan Cooper, Guard, North Carolina
Kenny Vaccaro, Safety, Texas
Lane Johnson, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma
Luke Joeckel, Offensive Tackle, Texas A&M
Margus Hunt, Defensive End, SMU
Menelik Watson, Offensive Tackle, Florida State
Sharrif Floyd, Defensive Tackle, Florida
Tavon Austin, Wide Receiver, West Virginia
Xavier Rhodes, Cornerback, Florida State
The door is still open for those who wish to attend, so this list is only a partial list. I do know Manti T’eo will NOT be attending, according to the NFL Network a few days ago, but he could also change his mind.
As you know, every year there are risers and fallers, and chances are that one or more of the rookies will not be chosen on day one, although the above list – granted, BEFORE the fact – looks like a who’s who of first-rounders. That’s why we watch, however, and see how the board breaks.
