During my usual lunch time troll for news on the internet regarding the Panthers I came across this news report:
Convicted murderers run Raleigh kiddie camp
I’m sure you are wondering what in the world this has to do with the Carolina Panthers. WTVD is reporting that two convicted murderers are running the Kiddie Kollege Summer Camp in Raleigh, NC at St. Augustines College.
Dorris Bullock, formerly known as Doris Braswell, was convicted in the murder of her child in 1981.
Her assistant is Deidra Gary, formerly known as Deidra Lane. She was convicted in the murder of her husband, former Carolina Running Back Fred Lane.
The school issued the following statement on the employment of these women:
“The safety and well being of children in our on-campus programs are our top priorities. Saint Augustine’s University performs background checks on all employees. Doris Bullock and Deidra Gary serve in administrative roles and provide valuable support. They are exemplary employees and productive members of the community”
Excuse me, but WTH. How in the world do you put two convicted murderers in charge of a camp that takes care of kids. You have one who was convicted of murdering a child. Her own child taken by her hands. The other was convicted of gunning down her husband in cold blood.
I am all for letting people back into society after they do their time. However, what I am not for is putting these people in a place where they can influence children. You are talking about two convicted murderers here.
To add insult to injury, according to the report, the parents of the children who attend the camp were never notified of their history
Parent Nicole White was quoted stating the following: “Not to say you can’t hire them, but why put them with children? Why would they think people would want to leave a child with a killer?”
Good question Nicole, and this is one that the good folks at St. Augustines college will be raked over the coals for and rightfully so.
