The Carolina Panthers have agreed to trade former Pro Bowl linebacker Jon Beason to the New York Giants according to Jay Glazer. No, Hakeem Nicks is not coming back in return. Carolina is expected to receive a late round pick as compensation assuming Beason passes his physical, which isn’t a given.
It’s been a sad end to Beason’s tenure with the Panthers. His comeback attempt will now commence with the 0-4 Giants in a situation where is sure to see more playing time than had he stayed. The funny thing is the Giants let the man who would make him expendable (Chase Blackburn) go this offseason.
When looking back at Beason’s career with Carolina it will be reminiscent of Dan Morgan’s. Both manned the middle of the field and flew around, but neither were able to stay healthy. It led to Morgan’s early retirement and it has resulted in Beason having to start over with a new franchise in hopes to regain some semblance of his old self. After seeing him this season it’s clear he isn’t right. The question now becomes will he ever be.
Football is a cruel game. As long as it takes someone to achieve success it can be ripped away just like that at any moment once the ball is snapped. Here’s hoping Beason can remain healthy the rest of the way.
