Panthers Halftime Report

An examination of the first half of the Panthers Saints game.

Steve Smith leaves the game with knee injury

Steve Smith suffered a knee injury running a slant route in the 1st quarter.  He was taken to the locker room for examination, however he returned for 1 snap before sitting down again.  I’m not sure how much pep this offense can have without their go to guy, but the run game has been successful in the first half.  If they can continue to run the ball well they will be able to put points on the board, something you have to do against a potent Saints offensive attack.

Defensive wreaking havock

The Panthers have been able to get pressure on Brees seemingly every play.  He has already been sacked a season high 5 times in the first half alone.  Greg Hardy continues to torment the rookie Armstead accounting for 2.5 sacks.  Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly have been making plays all over the field.  Davis’s interception was key and Deangelo Williams rewarded the effort with a touchdown run on the very first play of the drive.

Updated Projections

The Panthers defense needs to remain stout if they are to have a chance to win.  The Panthers offense still has playmakers but Steve Smith is a huge part of what they do.  We’ll look to see what adjustments Mike Shula makes on offense.  Enjoy the second half Panthers fans.  This is a good one.
