More bad news for Panther nation. Cam Newton is slated to have ankle surgery tomorrow in Charlotte. His ankle has been an issue the last 2 seasons and he had to come out for a play during the Saints game in Charlotte as a result. He did come back and deliver a game winning drive, showing his toughness. Cam is the key to the team’s success and they will go as far as he takes them. Luckily, it sounds like the procedure is only precautionary and meant to help alleviate the soreness and pain he is experiencing.
Panthers team surgeon Robert Anderson will perform the surgery and tighten some ligaments in Cam’s ankle. Cam has stated the ankle has bothered him since the playoff loss to San Francisco and the recovery time is expected to be four months. This means he will be back in time for training camp and ready to go for the start of the season. Resigning Derek Anderson was a big move, because if Cam should go down Anderson is a solid backup who can step in and run the offense efficiently. Cam doesn’t get enough credit for his toughness and he will be rehabbing like a machine to get back to form for the start of the season. You’ve got to love his competitive spirit, especially with the loss of Steve Smith for the offense. Here’s hoping to a speedy recovery. Get well soon Cam.
