Eagles Release Desean Jackson, Panthers Unlikely to Sign Him

News broke today that the Eagles have released wide receiver Desean Jackson.  His name has been swirling in trade rumors all week, but it seems the Eagles were unable to find a partner so they chose to release the receiver.  It is still unsure why the Eagles chose to release their number one receiver, but apparently off the field issues were the big concern.  That is a huge red flag for the Panthers organization.  Mr. Richardson has stayed away from players with potential off field issues, especially since the Rae Carruth scandal.

Jackson would certainly be a good fit in Carolina’s system.  The Panthers still need a true number 1 receiver, but it appears they will have to wait until the draft as they are not likely to sign Desean Jackson.  I would not be surprised to see him end up on the Saints or even the Bucs.  Both teams could use a burner like Jackson.  Brees lost his favorite checkdown in Darren Sproles to Philly, but a guy like Jackson can be hit on a 5 yard pass in space and take it 80 yards for a touchdown.  He is the perfect complement to Marques Colston’s physical play over the middle.  We’re not going to see Jackson in a Panthers uniform this season, so lets hope he does not end up in the division.  Jackson is a fierce competitor and I do not like the idea of him going against the Panthers weakened secondary twice a season.
