Defensive-end Greg Hardy has the Panthers organization waiting with bated breath, as a conclusion to his domestic abuse charges has yet to be reached. Relief was about to come in to play, as Hardy’s trial was scheduled for this Friday, June 27th. That is no longer the case, however, as Hardy’s attorney told the Charlotte Observer that the trial has been rescheduled for July 15th.
As if the wait hadn’t been nerve-racking already, 22 more days is going to seem like an eternity.
Hardy, who was recently given the franchise tag worth 13.1 million after the 2013 season, has become a huge risk with a high price tag. Although his ability on the field warrants his salary, his behavior off the field may not. Motorcycle accidents and foolish tweets can be overlooked, but domestic abuse charges are the flavorless icing on the inedible cake.
While many people are worried about the outcome of Greg Hardy’s trial, the man himself seems to be worry-free. During 3-day mini-camp, Hardy was all smiles, showcasing himself as the most energetic and upbeat guy on the field.
This may be because things aren’t looking as bad for “The Kraken” as they were previously. The accuser, his ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder, seems to be complacent about her charges against the Panthers DE. Holder recently fired her lawyer and failed to show up to a hearing for her request to file a restraining order against Hardy. Her absence caused the request to be dropped.
The outcome of this case could certainly have a huge impact on the Panthers’ future, so make sure you mark July 15th on your calendars. Here’s hoping The Kraken isn’t the monster he’s accused of being.
