The Carolina Panthers have officially announced the Team Captains for the 2014 season. Lots of familiar faces from 2013’s group, but with two new faces.
According to Steve Reed, here are your 2014 Carolina Panthers Captains:
Newton, Kalil, Olsen, Davis, Kuechly and Johnson are this year’s team’s captains.

They will join a returning cast of Cam Newton, Ryan Kalil, Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly. The two leaders of the offense and the two leaders of the defense were no-brainers. There were two spots vacated by the retirement of Jordan Gross, and the release of Steve Smith.
Head Coach Ron Rivera will look to his newly-minted group for leadership and trust on the field. These players will need to be the voice in and out of the locker room to keep the ship righted during the season.
Thomas Davis is the senior leader amongst the six players. At 31 years old, Davis is a leader without a patch to tell everyone else. His career is a medical miracle and it looks as if he is healthier than he’s been in several years.
Ryan Kalil and Charles Johnson are each entering their eighth-season in Carolina. Both players allow their tremendous heart and play on the field speak for themselves. Kalil is one of the more vocal and outspoken players on the Panthers’ team as well.
Greg Olsen is enjoying his first ever captainship.
In his seven previous seasons, he was never honored with the title of a captain, but that will all change in ’14. Both on the field and off, Olsen’s leadership and character are pristine. He is very deserving of this long-awaited achievement.
Rounding out the list, are the rising stars of the NFL. Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly.
Both players run their respective units and display a passion for the game that is unquestioned. Newton and Kuechly are starting to get some serious face-time around the NFL over the past season. Both youngsters are well on their way to locking down the captaincy for many years to come.
Cat Crave Nation, your six captains are officially here for the 2014 season. Riverboat Ron made the right call on each player, and it did not require the slightest bit of gambling on his part.
