Spinal expert: Cam Newton’s return depends on pain tolerance

Jonathan Jones – The Charlotte Observer

"The good news for the Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers is that his injury isn’t a mechanical kind that would produce any kind of long-term effects. The bad news is that it is unclear when he will return to the field.  He should be out for Sunday’s game against Tampa, and then after that, it’s all about pain management.  Newton will probably reach out to Tony Romo and Baylor quarterback, Bryce Petty as well.  Both QBs fractured the same vertebrae earlier this year."

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Carolina Panthers: Breaking Down Tampa Bay’s Game Plan

Luke Easterling – Bleacher Report

"Here’s an opponent’s look at how to beat the Carolina Panthers.  They will no doubt have revenge on their mind after almost completing a comeback win in the opening week.  Derek Anderson will most likely get the nod on Sunday, so Tampa will see a familiar face under center. It will be interesting to see how emotional this team plays with one of their leaders on the sideline.  This game is yet another ‘huge’ game for the Panthers, as they return home to Bank of America Stadium."

Eyewitnesses on Cam Newton’s car crash

Jonathan Jones – The Charlotte Observer via TheHeraldOnline.com

"A few people give their accounts of what they heard, and then eventually saw in Cam Newton’s car crash on Tuesday. The intersection that it happened at was right outside of The Charlotte Observer offices too.  It’s a pretty terrible intersection in Uptown Charlotte, and accidents happen often there.  I’m pretty sure there will be a traffic light put there in the not-to-distant future, especially after this kind of exposure."

Panthers Move up to #23 in Power Rankings

Jaxon – Cat Scratch Reader

"The Carolina Panthers moved up four spots in SBN’s power rankings this week.  The Panthers cruised up from #27, to #23, bypassing the Saints in the process. It’s looking like regardless of who wins the NFC South, that a very good team (possibly 10-6 or 11-5 records) will miss the playoffs.  As sad as it is, I wouldn’t disagree with the fans of the team left out, looking in.  However,  the argument can also be made that a divisional champion should not be left out of the playoffs as well."

Derek Anderson is the perfect QB2 for a team.  Very capable of filling in as a starter, veteran savvy, and knows what it means to be a teammate –
