Q: Could you discuss your desire to play in a new system and why do you want to leave Carolina’s system for something new? What is it that makes you want a change?

A: Really, it’s been seven years, seven good years. I think my desire has been stated. Nothing has been said that doesn’t represent how I feel about the situation. As far as wanting to explore a different system, I said things about wanting to maybe play in a 3-4, and that’s still the case. That doesn’t necessarily mean I’m ruling out any other teams that play a 4-3. I just sort of have that option available because I feel in that particular system, it would allow me to do things that playing defense in a 4-3 doesn’t necessarily allow me to do.

Here’s the sales pitch. It started early. Sure, he wants to play in a 3-4 defense. The problem here is that now he suddenly wants to play wherever he’s given a chance to succeed. What is he not being given a chance to do in Carolina?

By not narrowing it down to just 3-4 teams, he leaves to door open to more oportunities.

We have returned with Episode 48 of Cat Crave Radio!

We started with friend of the show, Tom Sorensen, of the Charlotte Observer. He broke down the loss of all of those coaches, Jordan Gross, and Jerry Richardson.

That’s when things got interesting and the Carolina Panthers announced Monday the hiring of Ron Meeks as the new defensive coordinator. [Wouldn't you know that would happen right after we talked with Tom? Go figure!]

Old pal Nick Yeoman and Chris Kolb of NFL News and Rumors gave us their thoughts on Meeks and the impact his hiring will have on the team. Nick was also here for Super Bowl editions of Boom Or Bust and Pick ‘Em.

Enjoy and feel free to comment below.

Mike Trgovac has found a job, according to the National Football Post.

The National Football Post has just been informed that the Green Bay Packers have added former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Mike Trgovac to their defensive coaching staff.

Trgovac spent the last seven seasons as a member of the defensive staff in Carolina.

More on this story as it develops.

UPDATE: Trgovac has been hired to coach the defensive line.

I’m still having a lot of trouble with this so somebody please help me…He had a job as defensive coordinator, was offered a new contract, was ready to sign the new deal and then backed out. All of this so he could accept a demotion in Green Bay?

Here is how the Charlotte Observer’s Charles Chandler explained it.

Mike Trgovac turned down a chance to remain as defensive coordinator and instead returned to being a position coach with Green Bay (defensive line). It looks like a step back, but Trgovac said he deliberated for days about his decision and determined he needed a fresh start, and that it would be best for coach John Fox to get a fresh start with a new defensive coordinator. Trgovac said he and Fox remain close friends and that it wasn’t easy to leave after seven years together.

A fresh start alright but a demotion no matter how you slice it, dice it or make julianne fries out of it. There’s no way the money is as good and he’s also off to work in Green Bay in a 3-4 alignment since Dom Capers will be his new boss.

This just smells funny to me.
