The Big Deal of the Week was that we found out the Pats are quite mortal with a pretty bad offensive line. That, and their kicker is NOT “clutch.” This game changes the AFC playoff picture by a LOT in the long term.

Kansas City @ Buffalo – Chiefs by 12

C.J. Spiller is indeed breaking out as a top RB with the injury to Fred Jackson. When Jackson returns in 3-4 weeks, Spiller will be near-impossible to unsesat as he’s leading the NFL in rushing after 2 weeks. C.J. also has that breakaway speed. I had said the Chiefs should win…IF they could contain him. They couldn’t, and they didn’t.

Final: Bills by 18

Cleveland @ Cincinatti – Bengals by 4

The Bengals had the lead the whole game but the Browns had a lot of fight in them and kept the game entertaining, if not actually threatening to win it.

Final: Bengals by 7

Minnesota @ Indianapolis – Colts by 4

Andrew Luck got his first win at home against a team as bad as his.

Final: Colts by 3

Oakland @ Miami – Dolphins by 5

Ryan Tannehill got his first win at home against a team as bad as his. That, and the Raiders ALWAYS play poorly in Miami…even when they’re a good team.

Final: Dolphins by 22

Arizona @ New England – Here’s your “Eliminator Challenge” gimme of the week – Patriots by 17

OOPS! Well, At least I’m in great company. I don’t remember seeing anyone picking the Cards in this one. I’m still not quite sure what happened, except as I mentioned above in the intro. I don’t think anyone truly saw this one coming, but that’s why they play the game.

Final: Cardinals by 2

Tampa Bay @ New York Giants – Giants by 7

The young Buccaneers vaulted to an early lead, but Eli pulled another 500-yard game out of his hat. But this game will be remembered for the last play. A kneeldown by Eli. Yep…that’s a whole ‘nother story as they say…

Final: Giants by 7

Baltimore @ Philadelphia – Ravens by 13

Baltimore had the lead or was tied nearly the entire game, but the Eagles pulled off another last-minute 1-point win. They can’t keep doing things that way, but I think anyone would be happy with a 1-point win over a very strong, talented Ravens team.

Final: Eagles by 1

New Orleans @ Carolina – Panthers by 4

The Panthers passed 2:1 in their opening game loss at Tampa Bay. OC Chudzinski remembered why they’re paying all those running backs so much money, flipped the playbook to run 2 to 1, and beat the Saints 35-27. Let’s hope this lesson was well-learned going forward. I think it is.

Final: Panthers by 8

Houston @ Jacksonville – Texans by 9

This “Eliminator” matchup actually held. Houston is struggling some on offense, but their defense hasn’t lost anything despite the departure of Super Mario.

Final: Houston by 20

Washington @ St. Louis – Rams by 11

RG3 had another good outing and had the Redskins in position for a game-tying field goal, but surprise…Cortland Finnegan got under their skin, forcing a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and turned a makeable would-be 47-yard FG attempt into a 62-yard one. Billy Cundiff didn’t have the leg, and the kick fell short and right. I’ve been saying from the start that the Rams are more dangerous than most people believe.

Final: Rams by 3

Dallas @ Seattle – Cowboys by 6

I thought with Dallas’ defensive showing in week one, rookie QB Russell Wilson would really struggle even more. While he didn’t exactly light things up, the team effort was strong and they had conrtol from the start. If this game should teach us one thing, it’s that Seattle has the best home-field advantage in the NFL. The other thing is to never, ever bet against them at home no matter who they’re playing.

Final: Seattle by 20

Sept 9, 2012; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; New York Jets running back Shonn Greene (23) runs with the ball during the first half of their game against the Buffalo Bills at MetLIfe Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Ed Mulholland-US PRESSWIRE

New York Jets @ Pittsburgh – Steelers by 9

The Jets jumped out early, but these are the Pittsburgh Steelers in their home opener. They don’t lose those and the Jets’ offense couldn’t keep up the pressure.

Final: Steelers by 17

Tennessee @ San Diego – Chargers by 24

A high-powered Philip Rivers-led team in their home opener playing a team without an identity on offense? I was close on this one…

Final: Chargers by 28

Detroit @ San Francisco – Niners by 18

The Niners are the best overall team in the NFL now, and by a pretty good margin. They don’t beat themselves and don’t give up many big plays. Detroit faught the entire game, and the two coaches shook hands (nicely) and put Handshakegate to rest.

Final: Niners by 8

Denver @ Atlanta – Falcons by 3

The Falcons have probably the second-best home field advantage in the Georgia Dome and jumped out to a good lead early. Peyton Manning tried to rally the troops and they made a run, but with 3 interceptions in the first quarter, he proved he is Human after all.

Final: Falcons by 6

Wow – a 12-4 week on the picks. Not too bad at all….and my record through week two is 23-9.
