As you know all too well, the quarterback situation with the Carolina Panthers is in turmoil. What the future holds for this position is anyone’s guess. What we do know is that something has to be done, and that “something” will not include Andrew Luck. As of now, the quarterbacks on the roster (Jimmy Clausen and Tony Pike) do not excite anyone.

The Panthers entered this season with Matt Moore has their starting quarterback. He looked like a drastically different quarterback from the one who finished out the 2009 season so strong. He did, however, have one good showing in the week seven game against San Francisco. It finally appeared that the quarterback situation might be coming together. . . at least a little bit. But we never really get to find out. Moore was injured early in week nine and missed the rest of the season. (more…)

I was reading some of Darin Gantt’s notes from Friday’s practice, and of all the things mentioned, the one that particularly stood out was how Matt Moore was looking like the best out of the four quarterbacks.

Of course, that goes without saying that at this stage of training camp, everyone should expect Moore to look the most polished among his competition. That doesn’t mean rookies Jimmy Clausen or Tony Pike won’t improve or even surpass Moore, but at this time, Moore is and should be the best option among his counterparts. (more…)

Why even bother, right? Is there a reason to break down the available free agent quarterbacks?

There have been two points of view on this topic this past season and early in the offseason. One group says that Jake Delhomme will have trouble rehabbing his elbow after Tommy John surgery and that his passes lacked some zip even before he went on the injured reserve. The other group tells us that Jake is doing well, will recover quite nicely and will be back next year connecting with Steve Smith regularly.

But only if we knew what the future holds. It sure would make us wiser and a heck of a lot richer! But, alas, we don’t. And that’s why we feel it necessary to not only profile each of the free agent quarterbacks here but for the team to look long and hard at the position this offseason. (more…)
