Luckily, it looks like the Panthers will be close to full strength for the game against the Vikings. The Panthers released their injury report earlier today and it was pretty clean. The team had just four players listed on the report, quarterback Cam Newton, safety Jordan Pugh, linebacker Omar Gaither and cornerback Darius Butler. (more…)

Elite quarterbacks at the NFL level do not come around too often. It appears that Cam Newton has the skills to become one eventually, however. Prior to the draft many people criticized Newton’s lack of playing time in an NFL style offense, his mechanics, and accuracy. Many people, myself included, thought the Panthers might have been better off giving Jimmy Clausen one more crack under center and taking another player like Alabama’s stud defensive tackle, Marcell Dareus, Georgia’s play-making receiver, A.J. Green, or LSU’s all-world cornerback, Patrick Peterson. Through the first seven weeks on the NFL season, Newton is proving the analysts wrong and has perfected his recipe for southern-fried crow. Sports Illustrated recently released a poll that ranked the meanest players in the NFL according to the players themselves. The Carolina Panthers were represented on the list by the one and only Steve Smith. Smith was ranked the 12th meanest player in the NFL by his peers, out of 15 player list. Smith was just fifth offensive player on the list and just the second skill position player ranked, behind longtime Steeler wide receiver Hines Ward. (more…)
