Fit On The Team:

Like many of the more recent selections the Panthers have made in the draft, McCaffrey doesn’t have one defined role. Instead, he could potentially fill several roles for the team. On obvious passing downs, McCaffrey could be lined up in the slot or the backfield to create a quick pass option for quarterback Cam Newton if the other team decides to send a blitz.

In other situations he could run the ball some between the tackles to give Jonathan Stewart a break. McCaffrey could also be put on special teams, returning either punts or kickoffs.

There in lies the value of having a player like McCaffrey. He is not just a one role player, because of his versatility – the first player of his kind in team history. While similar to a few other Carolina players, McCaffrey is different in the fact that he is also a very good runner. Consider him as having a role similar to Chargers great LaDainian Tomlinson.
