If protecting Newton is the goal, Hurney can make a statement with the first pick of the draft. Charlotte native Garrett Bradbury didn’t allow a single sack last season as the starting center for the NC State Wolfpack, his first year at the position.

Originally a tight end who transitioned into an interior offensive lineman, Bradbury blossomed at the center position. Earning the Rimington Trophy, essentially the Heisman of his position, returning to his hometown checks a lot of boxes for Carolina.

Projected lower initially, his NFL Combine performance drew a lot of interest from teams in need of help on the inside. Increasing his draft stock and potential, it wouldn’t be a shock to hear his name called when the Panthers are first on the clock – if he’s available.
