Holyfield is a viable option

A big question coming into camp was who was going to be the second running back on the depth chart. Elijah Holyfield certainly made his case. He was the game’s leading rusher with eight carries for 36 yards. Averaging 4.5 yards per carry, a seven-yard rush was his longest of the afternoon.

It was good to see him excel. We have seen the likes of Jordan Scarlett and Reggie Bonnafon a lot this preseason. Holyfield hadn’t really had a coming-out party like those two did. Thursday was his night. He showed that all his extra work after practices and minicamp paid off. It was encouraging to see him play so well. After not having a ton of running back depth last year, Carolina looks like they could be in good shape for the future. Holyfield isn’t the fastest running back, but he is a bruising back. He will be able to complement the rest of the running backs well. The multi-talented rushing attack will be able to confuse opponents over the course of game day.

With so many running backs at the position, it will be interesting to see who will make the team and who will be sent home. Holyfield certainly made his case to stay, and it will be interesting to see if he does in fact make the team.
