2020 NFL Mock Draft: Carolina Panthers land Brown, Jeudy to Jets, More
Similar to Brees, quarterback Aaron Rodgers won’t play forever as his window of opportunity to get the Green Bay Packers to win another Super Bowl championship is closing. One thing that makes Rodgers shine is stocking up at wide receiver. The more, the better, especially with young playmakers that do a lot after a catch.
The Packers draft wide receiver Chase Claypool out of Notre Dame as he’s exactly the kind of player Rodgers loves to have at wideout. A top-ten nationally ranked wide receiver, Claypool will thrive in the slot role and create great mismatches against opposing defenses.
Claypool totaled 2,159 receiving yards, 150 receptions, and 19 touchdowns. One can only imagine what he’d be able to accomplish with Rodgers as his quarterback. On top of all his receiving accolades, Claypool also has a lot of experience on special teams as a tackler. Talk about being able to contribute even more to a team that loves these kinds of players.
The San Francisco 49ers took care of their wide receiver situation and will now take the best available cornerback when they’re on the clock with the No. 31 overall pick. Cornerback Cameron Dantzler is perfect to draft here as he can come in as a rotational starter and also learn the ropes from Richard Sherman.
It’s no secret that Sherman appears to have lost a step, especially when it mattered most in Super Bowl LIV. This would be a great opportunity for a young up and coming cornerback to be groomed by one of the best cornerbacks to ever do it and eventually carry the torch. Dantzler has natural instincts to defend passes and does well against top competition, just like Sherman in his prime.
Sherman will undoubtedly see a bit of himself in Dantzler’s traits as both cornerbacks are extremely competitive and are all about being the best at what they do. Dantzler is also extremely smart when it comes to defensive assignments and maximizing opportunities to create plays.
The reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are as close to a perfect team as you can get. Their offense is as if they’re playing Madden in real life but if there is one positional group they could use some depth in, it’s at cornerback.
With the final pick of Round 1 in this year’s draft, the Chiefs select cornerback Noah Igbinoghene out of Auburn. Igbinoghene is a jack of all trades kind of an athlete as he has experience as a cornerback, a special team’s returner, and even as a wide receiver.
Excelling in run support as a cornerback, Igbinoghene is a workhorse that brings a great attitude to the locker room. He’s all about working hard, putting in extra effort, and doing whatever it takes to help his team win football games. Considering the amazing culture that’s already in place in the Sunflower State, he’s going to be a great addition on the team and ready to contribute in multiple ways.
That is the conclusion to this full first-round mock draft that sees a lot of surprise picks, some teams going in a completely different direction that anticipated, and most important of all, seeing how all these selections pan out over the next few years. Needless to say, the infusion of all this great talent will continue making pro football even more fun to watch as these players get used to life on the greatest stage of them all.
