Carolina Panthers: 3 NFC South signings that cause most concern
By Dean Jones
Tom Brady – QB
There is little doubt that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ signing quarterback Tom Brady has the potential to be a real game-changer for the franchise. They have been stuck in the mire for so long and now find themselves thrust into the spotlight.
Expectations cannot be any higher surrounding the Bucs in 2020. Brady signed a two-year deal worth $50 million and nothing less than a Vince Lombardi Trophy will do.
This is not a guarantee when one considers Brady’s age and how much he appeared to regress with the New England Patriots last term. There will be no excuses this time around on a loaded Tampa Bay offense that has two Pro Bowl wide receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, who are ultra-productive and playing at the peak of their powers.
Their running game looks strong, as does their offensive line. Rob Gronkowski was also coaxed out of retirement by Brady and acquired via trade from the Patriots. Whether he still has anything left is up for debate. But the quarterback has everything he needs around him providing there is still some juice left in the tank.
The last thing that the Carolina Panthers needed was something like this to happen. They are in the early stages of a rebuild and having another NFC South rival load up gives them two possible Super Bowl candidates operating in the same division.
The Panthers’ new defensive line might be able to give Brady some problems. And only time will tell as to whether this was one season too many for the Hall of Fame-bound player.
