Carolina Panthers Round 6 (No. 184): Donovan Peoples-Jones – WR (Michigan)

Head coach Matt Rhule went back to Baylor for his sixth-round selection in the NFL Draft. The Carolina Panthers took defensive tackle Bravvion Roy, who is going to slot into a rotation behind Kawann Short and Derrick Brown.

One area that did get overlooked during the draft was wide receiver. The Panthers possess some potent weapons heading into 2020. But it is far from guaranteed that Robby Anderson, Curtis Samuel, Seth Roberts, and Phorah Cooper will be with the organization long-term.

This is why it might have been prudent to take a development project with one of their selections in 2020. And Michigan’s productive prospect Donovan Peoples-Jones would have been tremendous value here.

The wideout has a good combination of size, speed, and agility that normally gets college recruits quite far at the next level. Peoples-Jones wouldn’t have been expected to make too many big plays during his rookie year. Instead, he would learn the trade from the likes of D.J. Moore with a view to making a larger impression in 2021 and beyond.

Peoples-Jones was picked by the Cleveland Browns, which puts him on the same team as Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Having two prolific route-runners to draw experience from is going to his chances of developing into a player of promise the world of good.
