Carolina Panthers: Trade scenario No. 3 for Jamal Adams

Big things are expected of defensive tackle Kawann Short when he returns to the field for the Carolina Panthers in 2020. His 2019 campaign ended prematurely with the torn rotator cuff and his presence on the interior alongside No. 7 overall pick Derrick Brown is a mouth-watering prospect.

Short is comfortably the highest earner on the Panthers going into the season. He will make $12.5 million in base salary on the penultimate year of his deal and count $19.46 million against the Panthers’ salary cap.

This is actually an area of need for the New York Jets. Veteran Steve McLendon is an aging player who currently occupies their nose tackle position. There is little doubt that Short would provide a significant upgrade as the franchise looks to take advantage of the relative uncertainty surrounding the prospects of the New England Patriots.

Losing someone like Short might be a sacrifice the Panthers are willing to take. They are moving back to a 4-3 base, drafted sixth-rounder Bravvion Roy, and they also have the option of putting athletic defensive lineman Efe Obada on the interior.

There is a high likelihood Short is released next spring even is he performs to a high standard. He will count a whopping $20.83 million against the cap in 2021. And this is simply not feasible for e teams that are in the process of rebuilding.
