Pittsburgh Steelers

One of the more eye-catching places for Cam Newton to end up would be the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team does have Ben Roethlisberger under center. But the veteran’s health is a real concern and there is little in the way of backup options available to the organization.

The former Carolina Panthers quarterback looks to be a fantastic scheme fit for the Steelers. He can move out of the pocket and keep plays alive. And this has been the catalyst behind their success with Big Ben as their gunslinger.

It remains to be seen just how much longer that Roethlisberger has left of his glittering career. Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges didn’t exactly shine when presented with an opportunity in 2019. And it was a miracle that head coach Mike Tomlin got this group to an 8-8 record.

Having Newton waiting in the wings would allow the Steelers to possess a better backup plan in the event their No. 1 gets hurt again. This could also give them a chance to use virtually the same playbook given similar traits in their game.

Newton is a far better runner than Roethlisberger. But his passing accuracy has tended to let him down on occasions. Having the player join the Steelers represents a win-win for both parties. And could see the team’s starting option once their long-serving quarterback calls it a day fall into their laps.
