Carolina Panthers trade target: Royce Freemen (RB)

Royce Freeman could find himself as the odd man out in the Denver Broncos’ running back room following the high-profile arrival of Melvin Gordon. With Phillip Lindsay set to slot in as their No. 2 option. It has the potential to set back his promising career to date.

This is something that the Carolina Panthers might want to take advantage of at a reasonable price. Freeman is a powerful runner who would instantly be an upgrade to their current options. And it would also take the pressure off All-Pro Christian McCaffrey at certain points of the season.

Freeman has already proven his worth in terms of coming straight into a lineup and making an impression. The former third-round pick does a tremendous job of getting yards between the tackles. And he also has a powerful burst that is more than useful on the edge.

One would suspect that Freeman and Lindsay will fight it out for the primary role behind Gordon during training camp. The latter does have a far better pass-catching ability, so that would probably give him the advantage.

If Freeman doesn’t get the carries his talent deserves during the early stages of the season. Then this could result in teams calling the Broncos regarding his availability. Whether the Panthers would be one of them remains to be seen. But he is a gifted runner with plenty going for him.
