Not bringing in a tight end is something that might hurt the Carolina Panthers between now and the season’s conclusion. They simply aren’t getting enough from Ian Thomas and Chris Manhertz for them to be considered as a threat to opposing defenses and it is putting further strain on quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in the process.

Ed Dickson is still on the free-agent market despite his obvious ability in the passing game. The veteran missed the 2019 season thanks to a knee injury, but providing he is fit and raring to go, he is definitely an option worth considering.

Last time Dickson saw the field was with the Seattle Seahawks in 2018 when he recorded 12 receptions from 13 targets for 143 receiving yards and three touchdowns. His physical presence and athleticism make him a primary red-zone option, which is something the Panthers have sorely lacked throughout the campaign after their decision to let Greg Olsen depart in free agency.

This makes a ton of sense for the Panthers. They are desperately lacking production from their current tight end options, which seems strange when one considers just how much offensive coordinator Joe Brady utilized the position during his time at LSU.

Dickson has been out of action for a long time. But there is relatively low mileage on the clock for a player his age and he would be chomping at the bit to get another chance.
