4 quotes that signal the end for Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater
By Dean Jones
"“Unless you have that guy, for sure, that gets you to playoffs and Super Bowls, you have to keep reevaluating that. Because that’s the only thing that matters is Super Bowls.” – David Tepper"
David Tepper’s desire for change
Owner David Tepper didn’t accumulate his extraordinary wealth by sitting on his hands and watching from the sidelines. He now has his guys in prominent positions for the first time and the billionaire will now want to see some sort of return on his investment next season and beyond.
Tepper has some ambitious plans to progress the Carolina Panthers away from the gridiron, which centers on their incredible-looking new headquarters at Rock Hill and the prospect of a stadium construction sooner rather than later. It’s vital for the organization to have a competitive team challenging for honors by then, which only increases the need for a more productive player under center.
On a couple of occasions this offseason, Tepper has thrown shade at Teddy Bridgewater to the point where you wonder if there is any way back for the former first-round pick.
This won’t be Tepper’s call to make, hopefully.
But it does pile more pressure on the decision-makers to find a better solution.
Tepper took the majority of heat when Carolina moved on from Cam Newton – a decision he said was met with tears from his wife. While the move doesn’t look the smartest in hindsight, it shows that the owner isn’t afraid to be ruthless and take a financial hit if it means the prospect of better performances on the field.
And nobody would be surprised if he did not sign off on something similar where Bridgewater is concerned this offseason.
