Jesse James – TE

After spending years as a secondary target in Pittsburgh, Jesse James left for the Detroit Lions and an opportunity for more usage. That didn’t really pan out and the tight end is once again looking for a place to fit.

James’ best season came in 2018 – the year before he left in free agency – registering 423 receiving yards on 30 catches. The former Penn State star also had an impressive 76.9 catch percentage that season However, those numbers took a huge hit in Detroit and 142 yards was the most the tight end gained in his two campaigns there.

Something can be said for the dysfunction the Lions have endured in recent memory causing that dip in production. A change of scenery might just bring those numbers back up to a level that should catch the Carolina Panthers’ attention.

With a tight end group that needs improving in a bad way, James could help solidify the position. Even if the Panthers go for the talented prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft, he would be an important veteran presence and has shown the ability to perform as a second option in the past.

If they don’t decide to improve through the draft, James would relish the opportunity to start for a team that has plenty of other distractions on offense.
