Avery Williams – CB (Boise State)

As stated previously, the Carolina Panthers need some extra assistance at cornerback. Donte Jackson looked like a No. 1 corner down the stretch, but with only Rashaan Melvin added to the depth chart so far this offseason, it is fast becoming a top priority.

Avery Williams might not have the stereotypical height normally associated with an outside cornerback at the next level. But his skill set more than indicates he could be of some use in sub-packages out of the slot.

This is something Carolina could do with after Corn Elder left for the Detroit Lions, with Williams also boasting some eye-catching athleticism in short areas that could make a nice pro out of the player one day.

Williams has no problem being physical in run support and tackling in the open field despite his 5-foot-9 stature. He can also make his presence felt on special teams while getting up to speed on defense, so there is a lot to like about his NFL prospects.

The Panthers need someone who can come in and make an instant impact either during free agency or the 2021 NFL Draft. However, considering the jury is still out on Troy Pride Jr. after a rookie campaign littered with struggles, picking up Williams when the first or second crop of cornerbacks are off the board wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.
