Nick Foles

Another quarterback facing an uncertain future is Nick Foles. His days of Super Bowl glory are now firmly in the past and he’s projected to be No. 3 on the Chicago Bears depth chart in 2021 following the arrivals of Andy Dalton and Justin Fields this offseason.

Foles can have no real complaints about his predicament. He didn’t do enough last season to convince anyone he was worthy of holding down the job long-term and if the right offer came in for the signal-caller, Chicago would no doubt consider it.

As a backup, Foles is fine. One only has to look at the way he stepped in for the Philadelphia Eagles on their way to a Vince Lombardi Trophy to see that.

It’s when he’s given an immediate starting position that’s the problem.

Whether this is a mindset thing or not is up for debate. Foles seems to perform better with far fewer expectations on his shoulders and the Carolina Panthers could use someone who’s done it all in their quarterback room ahead of such a big campaign for Sam Darnold.

Foles has come back from the brink to become a champion. This could provide Darnold with the mentor he needs as he looks to reignite his career in Carolina next season and possibly beyond.

One potential problem might be Foles’ salary, which is pretty steep for a backup and certainly, for a third option.
