The Pittsburgh Steelers have a crowded quarterback room heading into training camp. Ben Roethlisberger is still around after restructuring his deal, Mason Rudolph has clear intentions to be the heir apparent, and the presence of former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins is another intriguing element to keep a close eye on.

That, unfortunately, leaves Joshua Dobbs as the odd man out through no real fault of his own.

The signal-caller has barely seen the field for any lengthy period of time since being drafted in the fourth round back in 2017, so it’s going to take a monumental effort to turn things around.

However, there might be some skills that could be of use if the Carolina Panthers want to get themselves a better backup option next season.

Dobbs is incredibly mobile and has no trouble getting out on the move if a play isn’t developing as expected. This is reflected in the 2,160 rushing yards he gained in college at Tennessee, with his arm strength something else that could help the Panthers in the event Sam Darnold is forced to miss time at any stage.

Carolina might be happy to go with Will Grier or P.J. Walker and hope for the best. Their season would be pretty much a bust if Darnold went out anyway, so unless the defense turns into the 1985 Chicago Bears, then another losing record would inevitably follow.

Hopefully, that won’t be the case. But the jury is still out as to whether Darnold can put the demons of MetLife Stadium behind him.
