Carolina Panthers must stop messing around at QB

Whether the Carolina Panthers move forward with Sam Darnold in 2022 remains to be seen. But they have to stop messing around at the most important position on the field.

This has been a stain on Matt Rhule and the new regime from the moment they entered the building. The head coach declared how excited he was to work with Cam Newton before releasing the former NFL MVP in favor of Teddy Bridgewater, who lasted just one season under center before he was traded to the Denver Broncos.

Darnold was acquired for three draft picks from the New York Jets and had his fifth-year option picked up before playing a down. An experiment that’s blown up in their face and even saw the Panthers go back to Newton in time for their sensational win at the Arizona Cardinals.

It appears as if P.J. Walker will be fighting for a roster spot in training camp, but he is a turnover waiting to happen and the sooner Carolin formulates a concise plan for the long term, the better their chances will be.

The fans deserve better. Carolina’s talented weapons also need more consistency and it only makes D.J. Moore’s accomplishments more astonishing considering the lack of production under center.
