6 Senior Bowl standouts that should be on Panthers 2022 draft radar
By Dean Jones
Perrion Winfrey – DT (Oklahoma)
It might be worth the Carolina Panthers getting their hands on a long-term partner for defensive tackle Derrick Brown at some stage this offseason. Veteran DaQuan Jones performed well in this role last season, but with so many established veterans looking for new deals, there might not be enough funds to keep him around when it’s all said and done.
Finding a stout interior defensive lineman doesn’t come cheap on the free-agent market. So securing one from the college ranks is something to consider providing other needs are strengthened beforehand.
Perrion Winfrey would fit the mold and his stock has gone into a completely different stratosphere after a phenomenal Senior Bowl week. His explosiveness and overall dominance during drills were a sight to behold and he followed this up with a commanding game day performance to leave Mobile on the biggest of highs.
The former Oklahoma stud heads into the NFL Scouting Combine with a significant amount of momentum. A strong performance there would see him possibly enter the high-end discussion in the second round.
Whether the Panthers can get a Day 2 pick and target someone like Winfrey is unclear at this juncture. But there is no doubt what an asset he would be to a young, talented defensive front in Carolina.
