5 major questions the Panthers must answer in 2022 free agency
By Dean Jones
Can the Carolina Panthers keep veteran stars?
Although there is obviously plenty of speculation surrounding which new faces come on board, the Carolina Panthers also have to determine whether or not they can keep some key veteran pieces to boost their hopes in 2022. This might be easier said than done considering the financial constraints, so prioritizing some could be the best way to move forward.
The likes of Donte Jackson, Stephon Gilmore, and Haason Reddick appear to be the top-three in need of extending. However, giving two cornerbacks new deals just doesn’t seem feasible and the Panthers have a huge decision to make in this crucial area of the field.
Reddick was an absolute revelation after arriving from the Arizona Cardinals in 2021 free agency. But with 23.5 sacks over the last two seasons, this will obviously come down to how much money the Temple player wants over a lengthy period of time.
The futures of Cam Newton, Matt Paradis, Jermaine Carter, DaQuan Jones, and Juston Burris are less certain. It would also be worth Carolina extending Zane Gonzalez and Frankie Luvu due to their exceptional contributions throughout the campaign.
This is all part of the process during an important part of the preparation period. Scott Fitterer and Matt Rhule will seek counsel from other front office figures, but a new coaching staff won’t be able to provide much in the way of assistance in the decision-making discussions.
