Carolina Panthers select Eyioma Uwazurike

  • Defensive End | Iowa State

Losing Haason Reddick in free agency was a bitter pill the Carolina Panthers swallowed. His 11 sacks achieved last season will be hard to replace, so a big season awaits the likes of Yetur Gross-Matos and Marquis Haynes with additional expectations on their shoulders.

It might be worth the Panthers picking up another promising young edge rusher for the rotation. They also have the necessary financial resources to pick up a veteran free agent should they wish.

Someone like Eyioma Uwazurike should be considered a nice development project that could become a productive starter with additional development. He is a violent presence on the defensive front that finishes off plays in a physical fashion – something that is evident from his film during a productive final campaign at Iowa State.

Uwazurike is hard to stop when generating early momentum off the block. He is also strong enough to shed blockers with ease and can hold his own inside to free up space for others.

There is a rawness surrounding Uwazurike from a technique standpoint. He plays a little high at times and more efficiency when it comes to tackling will also do his professional chances the world of good.

With that being said, drafting Uwazurike would be of tremendous value at this stage of the draft and might play an instant part providing his transition goes smoothly.
