Carolina Panthers could draft Damone Clark
- Linebacker | LSU
The Carolina Panthers have some new uncertainty at the middle linebacker position following Damien Wilson’s recent arrest. Influential figures within the organization are now awaiting more information on the incident before potentially taking any action against the free-agent signing, which could even see the former Super Bowl winner released when it’s all said and done.
With only Cory Littleton and perhaps Shaq Thompson capable of manning responsibilities on the second-level interior, it might be worth the Panthers forming a contingency plan by selecting a talented prospect from the college ranks in the meantime.
Damone Clark is someone to consider in this eventuality. The explosive defender enjoyed a standout career at LSU and took his production to new heights in 2021 with 135 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks before taking on his next challenge in the NFL.
Clark is a serious force against the run and his competitiveness on the field is first class. This is matched by a physicality that will go down well at the next level and the player can also lend assistance in pass-rushing situations when the opportunity arises.
Providing Clark works on his gap discipline during the early stages of his professional development, then there is a chance he makes an impact right out of the gate. In terms of value, he might also be available early on Day 3, which would be of significant interest to the Panthers.
