Carolina Panthers WR Shi Smith continues to impress

After an indifferent rookie campaign and offseason arrest, Shi Smith came into training camp with a huge point to prove. There is something different about the wide receiver this time around and another standout showing on Saturday left even more hope that a bounce-back season could be in the offing.

Smith made another highlight catch in team drills and reportedly caused tremendous problems according to those in attendance. Something that came in for significant praise from head coach Matt Rhule once practice came to a conclusion.

"“Since the spring, he has been doing a really nice job. And (he) made some really nice plays today.”"

This is a major step in the right direction for Smith. One that the Carolina Panthers hope can lead to more involvement in the passing game when the real action arrives.

Smith is a fiery character that does have enough elusiveness and athleticism to become a factor. Things just didn’t click for the South Carolina product last season, but based on his efforts during camp so far, the former sixth-round selection is keen to use this experience as additional motivation.

Giving Smith plenty of work in preseason games is something to consider. If the wideout flourishes, then it will help his cause further ahead of the new campaign.
