Carolina Panthers should monitor Myles Murphy

There is always the likelihood that Will Anderson may not even last after the first two to three selections in next year’s draft due to his phenomenal talent. Even so, there is the next best potential option for the Carolina Panthers next season.

Clemson’s Myles Murphy is one of the top pass rushers in the entire country. He also offers the prototypical size that NFL teams running a 4-3 front look for at defensive end at an estimated 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds.

One of the first things you will see on film is not only Murphy’s size but the power and explosiveness he displays in his lower half. His upper-body features a maxed out form, prototypical length, and dynamic hands.

The former five-star recruit from Marietta, Georgia offers plenty of versatility. Clemson is known for moving around their defensive linemen across the formation consistently, which will allow Murphy to show NFL front offices that he can be a scheme-diverse EDGE rusher.

As a run defender, the second-team All-ACC selection shows good power at the point of attack and the ability to squeeze gaps and close rushing lanes for the ball carrier. Murphy’s power is good enough to reset offensive linemen at the line of scrimmage and the prospect has also shown to play with good leverage and set the edge well.

It is quite impressive to see how refined Murphy is as a pass rusher for a young age. He offers powerful hands that allow him to slip from blocks. The rising junior has shown a versatile rush plan displaying cross-chops, club-rips, arm-overs, and bull rushes.

If there was ever a time for the Panthers to draft their first-ever Tiger, the possibility of selecting Murphy next April would be a perfect time.
