Optimism is growing around the Carolina Panthers. It's been years since the fan base had any semblance of hope or expectation. The new regime is turning the tide, and they'll harbor lofty ambitions to continue this trend when competitive action resumes.

Dave Canales finally got a tune out of his players over the second half of 2024. It took a while, but the Panthers were more competitive. They picked up some positive results and went toe-to-toe with some of the league's heavyweights. And they did this with a historically bad defense holding them back.

Dan Morgan worked hard to rectify these issues throughout the offseason. They haven't solved every complication, but there's more balance to the roster now. And if quarterback Bryce Young continues to ascend, that's only going to help.

With this in mind, we made an early projection of how things could unfold in these game-by-game predictions.

Game-by-game predictions for the Carolina Panthers in 2025

Carolina Panthers at Jaguars — Week 1

  • Date: Sunday, September 7
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Everbank Stadium

As far as first games go, this could have been a lot worse for the Carolina Panthers. The Florida sunshine beckons with a trip to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Of course, this is the scene of team owner David Tepper's drink-throwing incident that became the franchise's rock bottom.

Things look different now, and this is a winnable game from the Panthers' perspective. Jacksonville is moving into a new era with head coach Liam Coen. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has some questions to answer, but the arrival of two-way phenom Travis Hunter brings significant intrigue. This is also a meeting between the Etienne brothers, Trevor and Travis, which adds another sprinkle of intrigue.

  • Prediction: Win (1-0)

Dave Canales has nothing to fear in this one. If the defensive reinforcements hit the ground running and the offense clicks, the Panthers can leave an early mark.

Carolina Panthers at Cardinals — Week 2

  • Date: Sunday, September 14
  • Time: 4.05 p.m. ET
  • Channel: CBS
  • Venue: State Farm Stadium

Another road trip awaits the Panthers in Week 2. This one will be trickier to navigate, with the Arizona Cardinals quickly becoming a trendy pick to enter the wild card picture next time around.

Jonathan Gannon is under pressure to make improvements. The Cardinals have Kyler Murray under center and a dynamic young defense to keep things balanced. James Conner is the bell-cow backfield threat, Marvin Harrison Jr. is the explosive wide receiver, and Trey McBride is one of the game's best pass-catching tight ends.

  • Prediction: Loss (1-1)

Winning isn't an impossible task for the Panthers. However, they could come out on the wrong side of this one.

Carolina Panthers vs. Falcons — Week 3

  • Date: Sunday, September 21
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Bank of America Stadium

The first divisional matchup sees the Atlanta Falcons visit Bank of America Stadium for the Carolina Panthers' home opener in 2025. It's early in the campaign, but Dave Canales will want to leave a marker within the NFC South and prove his squad is a force to be reckoned with once again.

Carolina got the better of Atlanta in a thrilling overtime success to conclude the 2024 season. Bryce Young was at his brilliant best that day, so confidence is high that he can get the better of second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. once again.

  • Prediction: Win (2-1)

The Falcons are a dangerous opponent. But if the Panthers play fundamentally sound, Young can come through in the clutch.

Carolina Panthers at Patriots — Week 4

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Gillette Stadium

Going to the New England Patriots isn't the daunting proposition it once was. However, any team coached by Mike Vrabel will be physical and organized.

That wasn't always the case with New England last season. There weren't many positives to take from the previous campaign, but the flashes demonstrated by rookie quarterback Drake Maye indicate the Patriots might have something special on their hands.

  • Prediction: Win (3-1)

The Patriots have made some substantial roster improvements this offseason. Catching them early in the campaign, while they are still working out their kinks, could be enough for the Panthers to gain a valuable win on their travels.

Carolina Panthers vs. Dolphins — Week 5

  • Date: Sunday, October 5
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Bank of America Stadium

This has shootout written all over it. The Panthers and Miami Dolphins both possess high-octane offenses and indifferent defenses. That's a recipe for fireworks, which should make for an entertaining encounter.

The Dolphins are entering 2025 in a high-stakes situation. Head coach Mike McDaniel needs to get back into the postseason. These hopes rest squarely on the shoulders of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered more concussions last time around as Miami's season descended to irrelevancy.

  • Prediction: Win (4-1)

Any team with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle as their wide receiver duo should be respected. But if the Panthers' run defense can do enough to contain De'Von Achane, they might have a chance of extending a positive start to the season in this scenario.

Carolina Panthers vs. Cowboys — Week 6

  • Date: Sunday, October 12
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Bank of America Stadium

Momentum will be immensely high if the Panthers win four of their first five games. That should also give Dave Canales' squad a chance to give the Dallas Cowboys a real run for their money on home soil.

The Cowboys are once again being hyped up beyond comprehension. Some low-level trades, a high-profile splash for wide receiver George Pickens, and quarterback Dak Prescott's return to health are seeing delusional projections arrive once again. Whether they can meet them remains to be seen, but Bank of America Stadium is always a glorified home game for Dallas regardless.

  • Prediction: Loss (4-2)

Running back Rico Dowdle will be looking for revenge against his old employers. But until Carolina's defense proves capable of stopping somebody, it's hard to predict anything other than a loss.

Carolina Panthers at NY Jets — Week 7

  • Date: Sunday, October 19
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: MetLife Stadium

A trip to MetLife Stadium comes at a good time for the Panthers. However, this is unlikely to be the same moribund New York Jets team of years gone by.

The appointment of head coach Aaron Glenn could change everything. He is an exceptional strategist and high-end motivator. They also happen to have Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator, who'll be eager to twist the knife into David Tepper after being overlooked for Carolina's head coaching gig in 2023.

  • Prediction: Loss (4-3)

Much will depend on how well Justin Fields performs during his final chance to prove himself as a starting-caliber quarterback. But the Jets' defense is enough to suggest this might be a difficult afternoon for Canales' squad.

Carolina Panthers vs. Bills — Week 8

  • Date: Sunday, October 26
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Bank of America Stadium

Former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott returns to Bank of America Stadium with his ambitious Buffalo Bills squad in Week 8. This will be a strong measuring stick for Dave Canales to see where his team is and how much more is needed.

The Bills look primed for another deep postseason run next season. They have a superstar quarterback and reigning NFL MVP, Josh Allen, leading the charge. Running back James Cook is another stern obstacle Carolina must navigate effectively to stand any chance of keeping this close.

  • Prediction: Loss (4-4)

Bills Mafia will pack the stands for this one. The Panthers kept a lot of games competitive with Super Bowl hopefuls last season. That doesn't mean they'll have enough to beat Buffalo.

Carolina Panthers at Packers — Week 9

  • Date: Sunday, November 2
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Lambeau Field

This could be Carolina's most difficult game of the 2025 season so far. A trip to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers will be a stiff challenge for this fledgling group. How they handle the environment and probable adverse conditions will go a long way to determining their fate.

The Packers weren't too far away last season. They are also a young team all growing together, so it would be a big shock if they didn't improve under the flourishing guidance of quarterback Jordan Love.

  • Prediction: Loss (4-5)

If the Panthers can make Love uncomfortable, they have a shot. But if they get off to a sluggish start, there will only be one outcome.

Carolina Panthers vs. Saints — Week 10

  • Date: Sunday, November 9
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Bank of America Stadium

There is substantial upheaval surrounding the New Orleans Saints heading into 2025. This is something the Panthers should be able to take advantage of when the division rivals square off in 2025.

Derek Carr's bombshell retirement changed everything for the Saints. They were expected to make strides under new head coach Kellen Moore. But if they move forward with rookie Tyler Shough under center, a rollercoaster campaign awaits.

  • Prediction: Win (5-5)

Shough is experienced, but not in the pros. If Ejiro Evero can confuse the second-round selection with his defensive alignments, this should be a comfortable afternoon at the office for Carolina.

Carolina Panthers at Falcons — Week 11

  • Date: Sunday, November 16
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium

As previously mentioned, the Panthers picked up an impressive victory at the Falcons in their regular-season finale. Bryce Young should be brimming with confidence after that showing. If Carolina can somehow attain a season sweep over Atlanta, it stands them in tremendous stead at the business end of the campaign.

The Falcons will be a lot better by this point. Penix will have grown into the starting quarterback job. Their two first-round edge rushers, Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr., should be fully acclimatized by this point, too.

  • Prediction: Win (6-5)

At the same time, the Panthers will be a more cohesive operation. And if wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan can get his numbers versus stud cornerback A.J. Terrell, Carolina can do the double over the Falcons.

Carolina Panthers at 49ers — Week 12

  • Date: Monday, November 24
  • Time: 8.15 p.m. ET
  • Channel: ESPN
  • Venue: Levi's Stadium

The Panthers are back on prime time. It's only one game, but it's better than the goose egg they received from the league in 2024. That's the clearest sign that things are trending positively, so leaving a good impression with the national spotlight glaring is crucial.

It'll be a challenge on the road against the San Francisco 49ers. They are expected to stake a stronger claim for the playoffs this time around. Brock Purdy, George Kittle, and Fred Warner all signed lucrative contract extensions this offseason. This also happens to be the first time running back Christian McCaffrey comes up against the team that drafted him.

  • Prediction: Loss (6-6)

This might be a step too far for the Panthers, especially if the Niners get a better run of luck on the health front.

Carolina Panthers vs. Rams — Week 13

  • Date: Sunday, November 30
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Bank of America Stadium

The Los Angeles Rams were unfortunate not to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs. Had the weather been a little more favorable, things might have been different. Despite the disappointment, head coach Sean McVay has the blend of youth and experience needed for another big postseason push in 2025.

Make no mistake, the Carolina Panthers must be firing on all cylinders to stand any chance of winning this one. The Rams' defensive front is exceptional. Their secondary is sound, and their offense is dynamic with veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford at the helm.

  • Prediction: Loss (6-7)

Controlling the clock is crucial. Otherwise, it's hard to envisage a scenario where the Panthers emerge triumphantly after a grueling campaign heading into their long-awaited bye week.

Carolina Panthers at Saints — Week 15

  • Date: Sunday, December 14
  • Time: 4.25 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Caesars Superdome

The Panthers have a familiar foe coming off their bye week. They'll be fresh, refocused, and ready to finish strongly down the stretch. They'll also fancy their chances of piling more misery on the New Orleans Saints.

Just what the Saints' record will be at this juncture is anyone's guess. Not many are expecting them to make waves. Some have even suggested they are primed for a run at one of the top quarterbacks entering the league in 2026 despite spending a second-round selection on Tyler Shough.

  • Prediction: Win (7-7)

No division game should be taken lightly. But the well-rested Panthers have a magnificent opportunity to sweep the Saints if these results become reality.

Carolina Panthers vs. Buccaneers — Week 16

  • Date: Sunday, December 21
  • Time: 1.00 p.m. ET
  • Channel: FOX
  • Venue: Bank of America Stadium

The Panthers have to wait a long time before locking horns with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next season. Dave Canales' squad wants to dethrone the NFC South kingpins from their perch. It won't be easy, but they have more than enough to be competitive.

That hasn't always been the case over recent years regarding this rivalry. But if the Panthers can lay one blow on the Buccaneers this season, it'll be a sign that the tide might be turning.

  • Prediction: Win (8-7)

The best chance Canales has of getting bragging rights over his old employers will be on home soil. They'll need everything to go their way, but it's not impossible by any stretch of the imagination.

Carolina Panthers vs. Seahawks — Week 17

  • Date: TBD
  • Time: TBD
  • Channel: TBD
  • Venue: Bank of America Stadium

The reunion with Sam Darnold also happens to be Carolina's regular-season home finale. Not many thought he'd be coming back as a $100 million quarterback after his trade to the Panthers fell flat. But he'll have all the motivation needed to make his old club pay for their lack of conviction.

Darnold joined the Seattle Seahawks this offseason after a standout campaign with the Minnesota Vikings. It was the perfect environment to flourish. Whether the former USC star can keep it up with a less stellar supporting cast is the big conundrum nobody knows the answer to right now.

  • Prediction: Win (9-7)

The Panthers know full well what happens to Darnold when he becomes flustered. If Evero can conjure up ways to make this happen, that might be enough to send the fan base home with some extra festive cheer.

Carolina Panthers at Buccaneers — Week 18

  • Date: TBD
  • Time: TBD
  • Channel: TBD
  • Venue: Raymond James Stadium

If the Panthers go into their final regular-season at the Buccaneers with a 9-7 record, there could be a lot on the line. Perhaps Dave Canales will be in touching distance of a wild-card berth. Carolina could also be in the NFC South championship picture depending on results elsewhere.

This would come with a different set of pressures. The Panthers aren't used to playing meaningful games in December. It would be a refreshing change of pace, but the Buccaneers have far more experience in high-stakes situations.

  • Prediction: Loss (9-8)

A final day defeat wouldn't take the gloss off a fantastic season if the Panthers finished 9-8. This would be the first winning record under David Tepper's ownership, which represents arguably the best-case scenario for all involved.
